Selected Accomplishments:
  • Selected to lecture before Congress concerning Immigration laws, issues and the impact on families.
  • Originated a Deportees Program with county correctional system to combat I.I.R.I.R.A. Law of 1996.
  • Initiated the first student immigrant high school program focused on Citizenship and Civic involvement.
  • Research and write all government grants, expanding fundraising resources significantly.
  • Originated and implemented the first Citizenship program in native language for the elderly population.
  • Spearheaded and implemented a successful Native Language Citizenship Tutoring program for the elderly.
  • Developed, organized and implemented the community's first immigrant citizenship program.
  • Designed group and mass production sessions to provide outreach assistance to hundreds of constituents within strict budget guidelines.
  • Selected as Educational Testing Systems (ETS) Instructor in preparation for United States Citizenship.
  • Chosen to translate in the United States Federal Court, Boston for wives whose husbands were lost at sea, as well as interpreter/translator for the United States Coast Guard.

  • Liberty Award recipient in 2002 for outstanding professional contributions to society from the Massachusetts Immigrants and Refugee Advocacy
  • Woman of the Year Award, Portuguese American Women's Association, May 4, 2001

  • Heritage Day Award, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Legislative, June 2001
  • Massachusetts Council of Human Service Provider, Peer Recognition Provider award, 1999

  • Greater New Bedford Human Service Coalition-Community Service Award, April 1997
  • Outstanding Volunteers Service Award, April 1997
